The activities which distinguish living things from non-living things are:
1. Movement: Movement is the ability of an organism to move its own body or part of its body from one place to another. Living things move in order to look for food for reproduction or run away from danger or respond to environment.
2. Respiration: Respiration is the exchange of gases between organisms and their environment. Living organisms take in oxygen and breathe out carbondioxide.
3. Nutrition: Nutrition is the ability of living organisms to feed. The reason for feeding is to enable living things live and carry out life processes. Like growth, repoduction etc.
4. Irritability: Irritability is defined as the ability of organisms to respond to stimuli.
5. Growth: Growth is defined as an irreversible increase in size or height of organisms.
6. Excretion: Excretion is defined as the removal of metabolic waste products from the body. The purpose of excretion is to remove waste products of metabolism.
7. Reproduction: Reproduction is the ability of a living organisms to give birth to youngones. The purpose of reproduction occurs in two forms. Asexual reproduction and sexual repdoduction.
8. Death: All living organisms must die because they have definite and limited peeriod of existence.

Death is included but no life is included, why?
ReplyDeleteThis is so because it is quite obvious that the narrator is speaking about the characteristics or LIVING THINGS.
DeleteThis is so because it is quite obvious that the narrator is speaking about the characteristics of
DeleteLIVING THINGS.
Characteristics of a living thing meaning it already has life and living then Mr Niger D included.
DeleteReproduction is life
DeleteBecause they are already living things
DeleteYes of course
DeleteI THOUGHT IS THAT IS MR NIGER DACH IN BIOLOGY
DeleteMr Niger gives life because it produces life because we can move, non living thing don't move except if a living soul moves it, RNIGER also contribute to life, which means without Mr Niger, there won't be life and without life nothing will be called death, which is the last D which stands for Death, and of course, The D shouldn't have included if not because of the sin we inherited and of course, Mr Niger will continue for ever but D which stands for death will be no more, Revelations 21:4, also consider Psalm 37:29, it says that the righteous will posses the Earth and they will live on it forever, pretty much, from Movement to Excretion, those will remain forever, but about the reproduction! God says that we should be reproducing and become many and fill the Earth, but eventually when we might have finally fulfilled his purpose, we might have to stop bearing Children, I don't know about that until we get there, my main concern is to get there, so that time will determine the (Reproduction), but for sure D will no longer exist.
ReplyDeleteI love your response (explanation). God bless you
DeleteI like your (explanation) god bless you
Deletewhat is the importance of irritability in plants?
ReplyDeleteto respond to stimuli
DeleteHi in d Mr Niger DAC it is only d and no AC
ReplyDeleteIts only MR NIGER D, where
DeleteM stands for Movement
R stands for Respiration
N stands for Nutrition
I stands for Irritability
G stands for Growth
E stands for Excretion
R stands for Reproduction
D stands for Death
So what happens to Adaptation and Competition? Ain't they part of the characteristic
DeleteThat is why it is referred to as MR NIGER DAC at higher level.
DeleteWhats the two most important of all of them
DeleteA stands for Adaptation
DeleteC stands for Competition
What if I am asked to differentiate between living things and non living things, can I say that living things die while non living things don't die?
ReplyDeleteWell yes, you can say that, living thing have life while non-living thing don't have life and death is only applicable on things that have life, if there is no life in a thing it won't even undergo death. For example, take a book, its a non living thing, it does not undergo the stages of MR NIGER D,because there is no life in it.
DeleteOnly living things that can possess the characteristics of life ,non living thing they don't and can never possess the same skills as living things and your theory is quite correct living things die while non living things don't die.I hope i was of help.
ReplyDeleteLiving things are that have life in them they are highly organised with cells ranging from simple to complex used for various metabolic activities (MRS NERG/MR NIGER CAL).non living things are things that don't have life in them yet don't have cells and their energy content is very low
ReplyDeleteT
Why Mr niger d & not Mr niger dac
ReplyDeleteIt was formally referred to as MR NIGER D. it was later discovered that living things also adapt and compete with their environment that is why it was added. So therefore MR NIGER DAC is the new characristics of living things. If you observe closely you will notice that living things posses the following characteristics
DeleteM MOVEMENT
R RESPIRATION
N NUTRITION
I IRRITABILITY
G GROWTH
E EXCRETION
R REPRODUCTION
D DEATH
A ADAPTATION
C COMPETITION
Yes you are right
DeleteIndeed it is true
ReplyDeleteWhy is the cad backwards
ReplyDeleteThe characteristics of living things can also be:
ReplyDeleteMR NIGER LAC, where;
M: Movement
R: Respiration
N: Nutrition
I: Irritability/sensitivity
G: Growth
E: Excretion
R: Reproduction
L: Life-span
A: Adaptation
C: Competition
I need elaborate definition of Irritability
ReplyDeleteEnter your comment...Mr Niger 2LS CAD
ReplyDeleteWho's here from UNIZIK
ReplyDeleteAll living things possess these? Concise
ReplyDeleteBecause as far as living things is concerned
ReplyDeleteNo need for life because living things the are alive already
Anyone to help give the full meaning of "DR MAGER CAN" under biology
ReplyDeleteCan u please explain A in MR NIGER D A since a is obviously supposed 2 be there
ReplyDeleteThis is copy and paste from ESSENTIAL BIOLOGY
ReplyDeletePlease, I want the explanation and purposes of MR NIGER D CAL
ReplyDeleteVery nice explaination
